Alan Mishler

Alan J. Mishler, 58, of Killbuck, died March 4, 2011, at Aultman Hospital, surrounded by family, following a short illness.

Al was born August 30, 1952, in Wooster, to the late Thurman J. and Janet R. Mishler. Al was the “baby boy” born into his loving family including two doting sisters, Helen Mary “Mimi” and Sara Louise “Susie.” Al was an energetic spice of life from his childhood on, providing countless stories of mischief and mayhem but mostly of love.

On July 3, 1982, he married Patricia Ann “Pat,” who was the love of his life, and he affectionately called her “Wifey.” As soon as Al said “I do,” he acquired a family of three children and a two-month-old granddaughter. Over the next 28 years, the family grew while being lovingly supported and encouraged by Al. He loved, protected, taught, and challenged each one to be loving, good people who care for others.

All who knew Al were blessed with his special philosophies, routines, and antics that centered around everything or nothing depending on what you needed and what you were able to retain.

Al lovingly cared for numerous residents over the past 29 years while working at Provider Services. Co-workers and residents alike were able to depend on this honorable, diligent, and loyal man.

When Al was not working, he enjoyed fishing, biking, camping, and pondering life while listening to music of many types in his garage. He attended many events and activities each of his grandchildren had over the years, from T-ball games, band concerts, marching band, wrestling meets, and soccer games, to graduations from high school and basic training, a wedding, baptisms, confirmations, a crowning of a prince, and Major League ball games.

As a token of his life of giving, Al chose to be an organ donor, which his family has honored. Al’s life, while short with those who loved him, will impact also the lives of at least 50 strangers.

Al will be sadly missed by his wife, Pat; children, Andrea (James) Weigand of Millersburg, Jody (John) Griesing of Sudbury, Mass., and Craig (Regina) Proper of Millersburg; six grandchildren, Nicole Weigand, Jessica (Ian) McConville, Caden Proper (fiance, Kaleigh Wilson), Alec Proper, Evan Griesing, and Callie Proper; sisters, Mimi (Harold) Moore of Wooster and Susie (Jerry) Holderfield of North Royalton; special family friend, Kenton Trubee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, too many to list.

A son, Thurman J. Mishler, preceded him in death.

Services were held March 11, at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with Pastor Bill Russell officiating.

Family requests donations be made to the Memory Garden at Pomerene Hospital, Millersburg.
