Robert Kutcher

Robert Eugene Kutcher, 81, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully March 27, 2011, at New Dawn Retirement Center, Dover, following a brief illness.

A son of the late William and Mary Kutcher, Bob, as he was known to his family and friends, was born Feb. 17, 1930, in Baltic. He attended Dover High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Having honorably served his country from 1951-53, Corporal Kutcher was stationed in Japan as a guard.

Bob was employed by the General Electric Company, Dover. After serving 37 years with the company, he retired from the position of crew leader for the wire drawing department in 1990. Following his retirement, he found himself working for a number of area florists as a part-time delivery driver.

Bob was an avid sports fan and a faithful follower of the Cleveland sports teams. His love for sports was a longtime passion as during the 1960s he was a coach for the West Elementary boys basketball team, which went undefeated in 1964. He also enjoyed spending time out of doors meticulously caring for his lawn and the floral beds which surround his house. Bob was known as a light-hearted individual who enjoyed finding humor in almost any situation, showing his ornery side, and rarely missed an opportunity to tell a good joke or share a story.

Surviving are his wife, Ethel E. Kutcher, whom he married June 14, 1953; daughter, Deb (Larry) Bower of New Philadelphia; grandson, Jeremy (Chantelli Fulst) Bower of Lincoln, Neb.; sisters-in-law, Ethel D. Kutcher and Nadine Kutcher; brother-in-law, Bill Rohn, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Martin and Anna Mae Rohn; and brothers, Wade, Ward, and Kenneth Kutcher.

Memorial services will be held March 30, at 3:30 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, New Philadelphia, with Rev. Richard Greenwood officiating. In keeping with Bob’s wishes, private burial will take place in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia, where members of the Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW will render military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.

Those unable to attend or wish to send the family personal condolences are invited to sign his online register at http://www.geibcares.com.

Memorial contributions in Bob’s name may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, 217 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia 44663; or Community Hospice, 201 W. Third St., Dover 44622.
