Plan ahead for Dutch Valley Days contests
Dutch Valley Days began in June of 2008 when Dutch Valley Restaurant underwent a major renovation and expanded the bakery. Employees and guests celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a small festival, which has since become an annual event. This year’s festival will be held on June 17-18 on the Dutch Valley Campus at Sugarcreek.
“I’m so excited about the things we are doing and I hope people catch the excitement and decide to participate,” said Vickie VanNatta, marketing manager for Dutchman Hospitality Group.
“We are having a cherry dessert contest. In the past couple years we have had a cheesecake contest and a pumpkin dessert contest and a strawberry dessert contest. This summer, it’s all about cherries,” said VanNatta.
Guests are invited to make their best homemade cherry dessert without the help of boxed mixes. Dessert entries can be brought to The Coop to be tasted by a panel of judges for a chance to win one of three prizes, a painted rocker, a $50 gift card or a $25 gift card.
The container gardening contest is open to everyone. “Since people are already beginning to think about their planting, I want them to know about the container garden contest now so they can plan,” said VanNatta.
Participants are asked to create a container garden of any size. Register online to participate. Bring your container garden to the Dutch Valley campus on Thursday, June 16. The public will vote with pennies to determine the best of show. All money collected during the friendly competition will be donated to the Tuscarawas County Child Abuse Prevention Center project. Prizes will be given to the top three container gardeners receiving the most votes.
In honor of the Father’s Day weekend, there will be a Dear Dad contest open to kids and adults. Register online or in any of the Dutch Valley facilities to participate. Participants can write a 150-word letter to their dad. Why is he the best dad? Why do you love him and what has he taught you?
“People need time to think about that and then submit their letter in time for us to judge them and announce a winner at the event,” said VanNatta. Participants will be divided into three categories: up to age 12, 12–18 years of age and 18 and up. The winner in each category will receive dinner for four at Dutch Valley Restaurant.
