Laura Notz

Laura Lucille Notz, 84, died peacefully April 16, 2011, following a brief illness.

Laura was born August 17, 1926, in Ragersville, to the late Raymond and Jessie Levengood. She graduated from Sugarcreek-Shanesville High School in 1944.

Laura loved to cook and sew. She was employed by the Tuscarawas Valley School District for over 10 years. For over 50 years she helped her husband maintain a working beef and dairy farm. Spending time with her family and being a good neighbor was very important to Laura. She took great joy and placed great importance on the many gatherings with her family and friends, which always included annual reunions, birthdays, and holidays. During retirement she also enjoyed being outdoors, where she spent many hours caring for her farm, sitting outside in her swing, and enjoying God’s beautiful creation. She was a member of Zoar United Church of Christ.

Surviving are daughters, Debra (Robert) DeSeyn of Sugarcreek and Diana (Thomas) Springer of North Canton; son-in-law, Harold Swinford of Zoar; four grandchildren, Michael (Heidi) Swinford, Bobby DeSeyn, and Lauren and Ryan Springer; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Brianna Swinford; and eight nephews and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Notz, whom she married March 27, 1947; daughter, Jessica; and siblings, Lewis Levengood, Willard Levengood, Jack Levengood, and Melva Stallings.

Services will be held April 20, at 11 a.m., at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Rev. Ken Hutchinson officiating. Interment will be in Dover Burial Park. Friends can call April 19, from 5-8 p.m.
