Walk on to Wellness competition planned

The Holmes County Park District is currently accepting registrations from teams or individuals for the 2011 Walking on to Wellness program. The goal of the program is to encourage the people of Holmes County to be more physically active.

The competition will run from May 30 to Sept. 1 and encourages participants to be active every week. Teams of 10 or more are required. Members will report weekly to the team captain and every other week the team captain will report results for tracking to the park district. Points are rewarded for every minute of physical activity, with a minimum requirement of 10 minutes. Participants are encouraged to find their own level of physical activity that best suits their lifestyle. The program is not only limited to walking. Dancing, aerobics and gardening are all good examples of physical activity.

All participants who log at least 60 points every week of the competition will be entered into a prize drawing at the end of the competition. Prizes will include gift certificates to area businesses and Walking on to Wellness T-shirts.

A traveling trophy will be awarded to the team with the highest per person point average at the end of the competition. Last year’s winning team was Curves II of Millersburg.

The deadline to register is May 27.

For additional information or to register your team, contact the Holmes County Park District at 330-674-3353 or log on http://www.HolmesParkDistrict.org.
