Charles McCauley

Charles William “Bill” McCauley, 90, of Uhrichsville, died April 29, 2011, at Walnut Hills Retirement Community, Walnut Creek, following a period of declining health.

Born March 1, 1921, on his family’s farm near Bowerston, Bill was a son of the late Charles Floyd and Mary Alice McCauley. He was a graduate of Bowerston High School and a veteran of World War II, having served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a railroad engineer for the Pennyslvania Railroad and, after retirement, was active in the Railroad Retirees Association until his health prevented him. He was also a member of the Uhrichsville Elks.

Bill loved farming and continued to work his family farm, where he raised Hereford cattle for many years. He especially enjoyed raising beautiful produce, which he then shared with his many friends and neighbors. He was a longtime member of Uhrichsville Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are children, Charles Douglas Dunlap of Stone Lake, Wis., Vicki (Martin) Yoder of Mt. Eaton, Gary (Marianne) Norman of The Villages, Fla., Carolyn (Denny) Jones of Leesville Lake, Rick (Carolyn) Norman of Uhrichsville, and Jill (Larry) Harer of Newark; 17 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; brother, J. Howard McCauley of Wellsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris June McCauley, whom he married August 29, 1953; son, Jack E. Norman; brother, Merle McCauley; sisters, Margaret Clinton and Jean Overschlake; a grandson; and a great-grandson.

Services will be held May 3, at 11 a.m., at R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, Dennison, with Rev. Mark Unrue officiating. Interment will follow beside his beloved wife in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call May 2, from 6-8 p.m.

Those wishing to honor Bill’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Hospice of Holmes County or the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum.
