KSB Cruises to another successful car show

There were plenty of cars to look at and plenty of people to take it all in during the annual Killbuck Savings Bank Cruisin’ for a Cure car show on Saturday, May 21.

Get a little bit of rain and classic and antique car owners get a little squeamish about hauling out their renovated, souped up gems, which are almost like a family member to them.

But grab some sunshine, and they are more than ready to bring out their vehicle, bring the Armor All and set up shop along the side of the road for a good old-fashioned car show.

The latter is exactly what took place on Saturday, May 21 at Killbuck, where the annual Killbuck Savings Bank Cruisin’ for a Cure Car Show took place.

Every year, the employees of KSB put on this incredible car show, which has received accolades from some of the top classic car publications around. And every year, the recipients of their efforts are not just those who love a nice muscle car, a Classic T-Bird or a rare truckster from the 1930s. Indeed, the real benefactor is Holmes County Relay for Life.

As has been the case in each of the past years when Cruisin’ for a Cure has brought great joy to the masses who come from far and near to check out all of the beautiful cars and be transformed back into a different era, the real winner is Relay for Life, which convenes each June to celebrate those cancer survivors who continue to fight the battle, honor those who have passed away, and for supporters to dig in their heels as they raise funds to find a cure for the dreaded disease.

Sunny skies goaded more than just a few people to visit the show, where some stunning classic and antique automobiles lined the streets around the square in downtown Killbuck.

“I thought we had a really nice turnout, both in terms of cars and people,” said Eric Roll, one of the event organizers. “We had great weather and that usually brings people out. It is something you can’t control, but whenever we see the sun, we are grateful.”

What was just as exciting as the sun was the people, many of whom Roll said were new to the show. Of course, they saw all of the regulars too, many locals who come back time and again to participate.

Over the past six years, Killbuck Savings Bank has been a community leader for Relay for Life, having become the first Platinum Award winner, an honor devoted to teams that raise upwards of $10,000 for an event.

“We love providing an avenue for car lovers to come and have fun, and we enjoy putting together something that gets our community involved, but Relay is the reason we put the kind of effort in that it takes to make this event happen,” said Roll. “This is our biggest fundraiser for Relay, and it is one that takes a great deal of work, but we get an amazing contribution from everyone here across the board. It’s a true team effort and it is fun to work together on something that we as a company feel is hugely important.”

Aside from the 150 automobiles, which highlighted the event, there were also plenty of other venues to keep the day lively. The band Prism presented live music, as well as a format for couples to get out and swing. Spikeman the Car DJ was on hand to keep things humming, there was a silent auction, kids games, plenty of food and the Killbuck Village garage and yard sale.

In addition to presenting a good time for people in the community and Holmes County to come together for a fun day, the event has grown to such proportions that it has been bringing in fans from all over Ohio and even beyond.

“Because of the size of the show and some really good word of mouth in some advertising magazines, we have been fortunate to draw people from outside of our own area here,” said Roll. “We had cars here from all over Ohio. It makes it all that much more fun when people want to be here.”

And it makes it all that more important to Relay for Life, who continues to get great support from KSB.
