Spring hardware season at West Holmes awards banquets

West Holmes freshman Paiten Strother received her First Year award for girls track and field and was recognized for garnering the Most Points Overall as well. Strother set a new school record in the long jump (16’ 10 and 3/4 inches) and qualified for the State meet in both the long jump and 4 X 200-meter relay.

Awards banquets at West Holmes High School over the past several weeks recognized Knights and Lady Knights athletes for their accomplishments, hard work and commitment over the spring sports season, which saw a freshman girls track and field participant qualify for the State meet in two events, while setting a school record in the long jump; had three other underclassmen -- a sophomore and two more freshmen -- move on to the State track and field meet as part of the girls 4 X 200-meter relay team; watched a senior hurdler qualify for State in his last chance as a high school runner, before graduating later the same day; saw a senior and a sophomore team up as a doubles pairing on the tennis court and reach the Division II boys District final match; and produced exciting action on the diamonds, as both the baseball and softball teams proved to be a force to be reckoned with -- after constantly reckoning with a force called Mother Nature -- in the Ohio Cardinal Conference, before each bowed out in the opening round of Sectional tournament play.
