Ora Miller

Ora C. Miller, 86, of Sugarcreek, died June 12, 2011, at Walnut Hills Nursing Home, Walnut Creek, following a period of declining health.

Born Sept. 26, 1924, in Reno County, Kans., Ora was a son of the late Samuel and Barbara Miller. He retired from the Belden Brick Company, Sugarcreek, after 45 years and also retired after serving for 28 years as a Sugarcreek Township trustee. He was a member of Shanesville Lutheran Church, a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, and a member of the Sugarcreek American Legion. He also was an avid bowler, having bowled in 43 American Bowling Congress National Tournaments, and was a member of the Dover-New Philadelphia Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Janet Miller, whom he married April 15, 1950; children, Ted (Ruth) Miller of Dover, Mike (Jenny) Miller of Uniontown, and Colleen Uhl of Millersburg; six grandchildren, Tad (Doriza) Miller, Brin Miller, Brenda (Duane) Trachsel, Michael (Deb) Taylor, Mandy (Brian) Yates, and Trevor (Shawnacy) Miller; and nine great-grandchildren, Kaia Miller, Samantha and Paulina Hershberger, Sara Trachsel, Emily and Mary Burgardt, Miles and Zoe K. Yates, and Kennedy Miller.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Manassas Sommer; sisters, Esther Wyss and Oleta Lehman; brother, Henry Miller; stepsisters, Verba Gerber, Manona Sundheimer, Buehlah Flinner, and Alma Kandel; and stepbrothers, Lloyd and Howard Mishler.

Services will be held June 16, at 11 a.m., at Shanesville Lutheran Church, Sugarcreek, with Rev. Ellen Mills officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery, Sugarcreek, where the Sugarcreek American Legion will conduct military graveside honors. Friends may call June 15, from 5-8 p.m., at Smith-Varns Funeral Home, 1018 W. Main St., Sugarcreek, and one hour prior to services at the church.
