After Miller, who is an on-air personality for several regional programs, including Fox 8 News in the Morning, previously engaged in some lighthearted banter with both co-anchor Wayne Dawson and feature reporter Kenny Crumpton about her hometown, the two gentlemen from up north decided it was time to see what all the fuss was about in Ohio’s Amish Country.
The Fox 8 duo met up with Miller at her Millersburg establishment to tour the home, cook up a hearty breakfast and venture to Walnut Creek Cheese for some hands-on fun within the local Amish community.
Moving swiftly through the hallways, peering into each of the beautifully decorated country-style rooms of The Miller Haus, Dawson was quick to note that there were no televisions or radios, an obvious contrast from the many choice spots in bustling Cleveland, as well as the name Miller, which kept popping up in casual conversation.
“In Amish Country, I’m just another Miller,” laughed the owner of the B&B, as she explained something that many in this area often consider to be just another common last name.
Walking onto the outdoor deck, Crumpton could be heard saying repeatedly, “Now this… this is the money shot,” as he peered out at the beautiful rolling hills, at one of the highest elevations in Holmes County, while Dawson reiterated, “This is like heaven,” which must be the reason Amish Country is the choice spot for so many vacationers, newlyweds and families throughout the world.
“This is our first time here,” explained Dawson, to which Crumpton added, “(Miller) was doing a thing for our RV show… but she talked about how it was a little piece of paradise, coming out here, and it really is. That’s the attraction I like.”
As the casual and relaxed atmosphere quickly sunk in and the business side of the visit disappeared, both the Fox 8 team and the staff inside The Miller Haus conversed like old friends, commenting on the peacefulness of the area, as well as the delicious breakfast Miller had cooked up for the segment, which included an entire loaf of fresh bread, 16 ounces of cream cheese, pure maple syrup, and beautiful plump blueberries.
As Dawson and Crumpton donned their custom-made blue jean bib overalls, provided by Butterchurn Kitchenwares, Miller showed them what Amish cooking is all about. Helping upon helping of the rich meal was then served at the table, just as it would be to all of the guests at The Miller Haus, and the Fox 8 team indulged without hesitation.
As the group wrapped up their shots inside the B&B and plenty of snapshots were taken with the two local celebrities, popular tourist locations were discussed and recommendations for the next visit were made. But one thought summed up the reason why so many visitors flock to Holmes and Wayne counties to get the full experience that is Ohio’s Amish Country.
“Everywhere I look, it says welcome,” noted Dawson, to which Miller responded, “And what does welcome mean? It means love. Here, in Amish Country, we want you to feel loved.”
