Pauline was born August 1, 1904, in Shanesville. She had been a Lorain County resident for the past five years and had previously lived in Holmes County. At the age of five, she attended a one-room school house in Maynard and then, along with her siblings, finished her school years in New Philadelphia. Pauline then became a telephone operator and moved to Cleveland to work for Ohio Bell. She enjoyed dancing to the music of the big bands of the 1920s at Euclid Beach Park on Cleveland’s eastside. She met her husband in the ballroom at Euclid Beach Park and they were married June 28, 1930.
Pauline was a member of North Eaton Christian Church and of the Lorain County, Belden, and Carlisle historical societies. In earlier years she enjoyed being involved with Boy and Girl Scout troops, working as a church camp craft counselor, and being involved with PTA when her children were in school in Fairview Park.
Surviving are a daughter, Janice C. Brooks of Carlisle Township; son, James (Colleen) Rider of Avon; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Rider; sister, Helen Galloway; brothers, Lawrence and Victor Brockman; and her parents, Lawrence and Mary Brockman.
Celebration of life services were held July 31, at North Eaton Christian Church, Grafton, with Revs. Charles Butcher and David Clemens officiating.
