Paul was born March 13, 1931, on the family farm near Berlin, to the late Blake and Beaulah Boyd. He had attended Boyd’s one-room schoolhouse for two years that was, and still is, located on the family farm, and graduated from Berlin High School. He was a life member of Faith Lutheran Church and was a lifelong dairy farmer near Berlin on the family farm.
Paul was a 4-H advisor for over 60 years and was inducted into the State 4-H Hall of Fame in 2008. He was a farm bureau member and a member of the Gnat Boxer Square Dance Club and the Holmes County Soil and Water Conservation District. Paul was on the Holmes County Fair Board and was a Berlin Township trustee for 30-plus years. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, hunting, square dancing, flint knapping, and wood carving. Paul was known locally as the “owl man” because of the love he had for barn owls.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Jean Boyd, whom he married Sept. 5, 1954; children, Darwin (Roberta) Boyd of Warren and Rita Boyd of Millersburg; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Jacob, and Joshua Boyd, all of Warren; sister, Shirley Boyd of Columbus; and brother-in-law, Robert Ferrell of Findlay.
He was preceded in death by a sister, June Ferrell.
Services will be held August 25, at 10:30 a.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, with Rev. Robert Groenke officiating. Burial will be in Berlin Cemetery. Friends may call August 24, from 5-8 p.m., at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg.
