West Holmes FFA sophomores compete

The West Holmes FFA sent 15 sophomore members to compete at District Soils Sept. 28.

The West Holmes FFA sent sophomore members to District Soils in Guernsey County Sept. 28. While there, members examined soil for its slope, texture, depth and drainage, as well as the potential farming or building uses for the specified areas. In addition, they were tested on their knowledge of how to read a soil survey book and their general knowledge of soil and its characteristics.

The chapter had two teams competing in the contest. The Urban team consisted of Jesse Wines, who placed 20th, Dustin Niehaus (23rd), Doug Giauque (27th), Luke Miller (33rd), Madelyn Brewer (37th), Mandy Taylor (39th), and Tyler Evans (40th). The team placed seventh out of eight teams.

The Rural team consisted of Grayson Miller, who placed 40th, Atlee Miller (62nd), Beth Klein (77th), Clay Armstrong (88th), Megan Miller (92nd), Bryce Williamson (95th), Trevor Kick (101st), and Tyler Gallupe (103rd). The team placed 12th out of 13 teams.
