To the Editor:

My name is Chris Juroff. I am a Goshen police officer, but today I come to you as the president of Goshen FOP Lodge 81. This lodge is comprised of law enforcement officers throughout Elkhart County, including officers from the Goshen, Middlebury, Bristol, Millersburg, and Wakarusa police departments, as well as the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police.

In response to the murder of Goshen College Professor James Miller Oct. 9, the Goshen FOP Lodge 81 has established a reward fund to assist the Goshen Police Department with the identification and arrest of the individual responsible for this heinous crime. The Goshen FOP has deposited $5,000 into a bank account with the hope that others in our community will donate and grow the fund into a substantial amount of money. All money donated to this fund will be used as an incentive for any individual to come forward with specific information that will assist in the accurate identification of the person responsible for this crime.

Ultimately, we are saddened for the victims of this horrific crime, the entire Miller family and all community members who are searching for an explanation of why and how this happened. The Goshen FOP and the officers involved in our organization take it personally that this crime occurred in our community.

Anyone can donate to the “Not in our Community Fund” by going to the Goshen Police Department website at http://www.goshencitypolice.com, by stopping at any Interra Credit Union and making a deposit to the “Not in our Community Fund,” or by sending a check to the Goshen Police Department, care of FOP Lodge 81, at 111 East Jefferson, Goshen, IN 46528.

As a side note, we want the community to know that this fund was voted on by the Goshen FOP as a group on Oct. 24. The announcement of this is in no way connected to the political rivalry taking place in Goshen between Mayor Kauffman and Mr. Reigsecker.
