Who needs to go to Broadway when Broadway comes right to your front door?

Granted, it isn’t Rita Moreno and Matthew Broderick doing the crooning of these beloved Broadway musical numbers, but the best of the best from past years and this year’s current crop of Hiland Varsity Singers will be presenting a cornucopia of highly acclaimed Broadway musical numbers on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 12 and 13 in Hiland High School’s auditorium.

The event, dubbed Broadway Showcase, will feature rousing numbers from Hiland musicals from days gone by, including Annie Get Your Gun, Oklahoma, The Music Man, The Sound of Music, The Princess and the Pea and more.

And the cast of talent coming back to perform at their alma mater is a virtual who’s who of voices from the past number of years, as some of the finest voices to grace the stage will return to provide an inspirational, highly entertaining evening of music.

The Broadway Showcase takes place Saturday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 13, at 2:30 p.m., both shows taking place in the Hiland auditorium. The cost is $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors, and intermission refreshments will be included.

The musical gala will be presented as a way to raise funds for the choir to attend the upcoming trip to sing at Disney World this spring, and choir director John Harris said that while it is a few dollars more than the musicals, it is a fundraiser for a good purpose.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for both our choir and band kids to get to perform at one of the greatest venues anywhere,” said Harris. “We appreciate the community’s support for our kids, and we hope that this weekend will be a great way to not only raise funds for our trip, but to showcase some of the incredible vocal talent that has passed through the school over the years.

“Our Varsity Singers are so ready for a big night, and it should be one heck of a show.”

Reserve tickets will be available in the Hiland foyer from Nov. 7-11, between the hours of 7:30-9 a.m. and 4-5:30 p.m. If tickets remain available, they will also be sold at the door the day of the performances.
