This Christmas season, you don’t need a trip to the North Pole or even to the bright lights of the big city to get into the festive holiday season mood. A simple trip to Historic Downtown Millersburg should provide plenty of holiday spirit for the entire family, as the upcoming Children’s Night Out takes place on Friday, Dec. 16.

Join the downtown members and countless other families in Historic Downtown Millersburg for a night just for the kids, as the downtown merchants offer special crafts, treats and other activities to help children get into the holiday spirit.

The event, dubbed Children’s Night Out because it is designed around creating events just for kids, has been a wildly successful evening for young and old alike, as there is almost as much joy for the parents and grandparents of the children, who get to watch the faces of their youngsters light up with the multitude of activities and fun involved in the night’s venue.

“It’s a really traditional time meant to be fun for the whole family, but designed with the kids in mind,” said Tara McCulloch, co-executive director of Historic Downtown Millersburg. “And what makes it better is that all of the activities going on are absolutely free.”

Whether the children are building a gingerbread house, making an ornament, enjoying cookies and hot chocolate or partaking in one of the many in-store forms of entertainment, the list of things to do is lengthy and enchanting.

Whether its making Christmas tree ornaments at Western Auto True Value, candles at Walnut Creek Candles or participating in any other number of activities up and down the main drag in Millersburg, there is plenty to do.

Plus, taking some time off from all of the toy-making activities at the North Pole, Santa Claus will be on hand at Bookworms to listen to the Christmas wish lists of all the good boys and girls.

In addition, Lauren Fox, author of the children’s book I Did It! I promise!, a book based on the age-old issue of losing one’s homework, will be on hand for a book signing.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for families to just venture into town, wander around the downtown area and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere, without spending a lot of money,” said McCulloch. “They may also want to take the opportunity to visit the stores and do some Christmas shopping. There will be plenty of great sales going on.”

So kids, get your wish list ready for Santa, grab mom and dad and venture into Millersburg Dec. 16, for what is sure to be a fantastic evening of Christmas fun for everyone. The events will take place from 5-8 p.m.
