James was born June 19, 1947, in Fremont, and was the son of the late Gerald and Margaret Kiser. On Feb. 19, 1972, he married Linda Distel and she survives.
James was a 1965 graduate of Lakota High School, Kansas. He worked seven years for John Deere, Waterloo, Iowa, from 1977-84, and from 1985 to present he worked 27 years as a charter captain and co-owner of JPB Lures Mfg. He was a member of Scott Trinity United Methodist Church and the Lake Erie Charter Boat Association.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Linda, are a daughter, Jamie (Jeff) Kennedy of Catawba Island; grandsons, Jackson and Jayce Kennedy; and sisters, Judy Kiser (Jim Carpenter) of Findlay, Cara Black of Bradner, and Shirley Kiser of Risingsun.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Harriet Kiser and Wayne and Helen Phillips.
There will be no services. Calling hours will be Feb. 7, from 5-8 p.m., at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, and Feb. 9, from 4-8 p.m., at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Marblehead.
