Dan Jackson appointed to the Central Committee

The Holmes County Republican Central Committee met the evening of Monday, Sept. 19 to interview three area attorneys who have applied to succeed the late Judge Jane Irving on the County Municipal Court bench. The attorneys are Cassandra Holtzmann, Andrew Hyde and Sam Steimel.

Following prepared statements by the applicants and questions from the members, the committee voted to nominate the three to the governorís office for further interviews. The governor will make the appointment and is not obligated to appoint one of the local nominations. Because Judge Irving was a Republican, the County Republican Central Committee is invited to make nominations to the governor but without ranking the nominees or expressing a preference.

In other action the Central Committee appointed Dan Jackson to represent Mechanic Township on the committee, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of precinct committeeman Patti Kidney. Jackson is director of the Holmes County Department of Jobs and Family Services and lives at Lake Buckhorn.

The Holmes County Republican Central Committee has 17 members, one from each precinct in the county, which are elected by the voters in the primary election to four-year terms. The current term expires in 2018.
